A Mockingbird

A young woman hides

her agile beauty to stay apart

from a society,

subjected to the consumption of drugs

that makes him sane, more or less

what he needs in a vein;

the wings of a mockingbird

cut out by a sharp scissor.

Review: Mumbai Police

Mumbai Police Movie – Malayalam, a psychopathic cum fiery investigative scripted flick which I have seen in Malayalam after such a long time. I don’t personally believe that there is anything special in the direction part by Rosshan Andrrews(considering the fact that Cassanova wasn’t a stabbing success in his career), major leading actors including Prithviraj (in as ACP Antony Moses) or Jayasurya (in as ACP Aryan John Jacob) and Rahman (in as CP Farhan). Even if I they garbed the police uniforms and known as Mumbai Police together as a ‘team’, I doubt whether they have done something inexplicable in this fab movie. Yeah! This is really a fabulous-enjoyable movie which a crazy Mallu movie viewer could fall in with. I was lil confused about, what or how to write a review about this movie? The reason behind it is a hectic factor though.
For me, the most basic, but the counterpart during the interpretation of a good movie is its unbiased story itself. That’s what I have mentioned above! I mean, what’s so special while speaking about ‘Mumbai Police’? Story, uh? Yeah! Bobby-Sanjay combination has once again proved their deliberate epic symbol on the writing part and showed us that, they are inconclusively still awake for heating their brain cells for the audience. Hence, I’ll give the whole ratings and applauds to these 2 gentlemen, who have had worked so hard on generating a tonic story part and give us a very thoughtful piece of script.

You aren’t suiting well with the behavior and attitude of a police officer, Appu. Could have been much better, if you show the kind of tempestuous nature which is a must character for a police officer in the movie. It doesn’t mean, ya have disappointed the viewers in any way, but we are expecting enough from your inborn acting skills.

The BG score did by Gopi Sunder and cinematography by R. Diwakar were all set in an unbeatable quality for a  mystery tagged movie like this.

VERDICT: A must watch one for the viewers, who could accept the hidden ‘realities‘ happening in our current society and appreciate this team as a whole for the courage they had put together in its making.

She was my SISTER!

“India is my country and all Indians are my brothers and sisters.

I love my country and I am proud of its rich and varied heritage.

I shall always strive to be worthy of it.

I shall give my parents, teachers and all elders respect and treat everyone with courtesy.

To my country and my people, I pledge my devotion.

In their well-being and prosperity alone, lies my happiness.”

What I have stated above is the pledge of my tricolor flag owned nation. Yes, I’m an INDIAN. A democratic country which is rich in its tradition, culture, rituals, food, education and all, among the world nations. Well, I’m not interested in mentioning about the conversant attributes of my nation. What actually I have to reveal about my nation is this story which touched every Indians heart for the past few days.

I don’t know how will you react to this crooked incident after hearing the story! I’m bit feared about your approach and expectations in the near future towards my nation though. What I’m going to tell you is all about the thoughts and responses by a common being against an illogical incident happened by the mid of this Christmas month and finally ended up with the death of a 23 year old girl who had enough dreams to achieve in her life. Let me briefly describe the incident at first.

Kaput Hopes

December 16: The victim, a paramedic student, watches a movie with her friend and heads home around 9 pm. She and her friend get on an illegal bus (a common sight in Delhi) whose conductor indicates that it is heading towards her home.

On the bus, six drunken men, including the driver, first taunt her and used an iron rod to beat her friend, who tries to defend her, unconscious. They then rape and torture the young woman for over 40 minutes.

In an attempt to hide their crime they strip the woman and her friend and throw them, naked and unconscious, out of the bus.

They are discovered by the police and admitted to Safdarjung Hospital.

December 17: The police begin their investigations. Using CCTV footage and other clues, they identify four of assassins. Meanwhile her doctors disclose the extents of the woman’s horrific injuries.

December 18: The first protests begin, carried out by students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University. The day also sees a drama-filled day at Parliament where Sushma Swaraj calls for the death penalty and Jaya Bachchan makes an emotional speech.December 20: Students protest directly outside Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit’s house. After they try to storm the police barricade they are chased away by the Delhi police in the first of many such clashes. The victim’s friend gives his statement. December 21: The victim continues to be critical. Her friend identifies Mukesh, one of the accused, at Tihar jail. One more of the six are caught by the police.

December 22: Protests begin to get larger and start to center around the India gate and the Rastrapathi Bhavan, where thousands assembly and protest peacefully.

December 23: Protests continue. Some elements begin to attack the police barricade and damage some vehicles. Delhi police retaliate with water cannons, tear gas and indiscriminate lathi charges. The reaction leads to chaos around India Gate and causes a severe backlash against the police.

A police constable, Subhash Tomar is found collapsed at the scene of the protests. The police immediately arrest eight protestors for assaulting him.

December 24: The infamous ‘Theek Hai’ day. After demands by the protestors to be addressed by the leader of the nation, PM Manmohan Singh makes a statement. He asks protesters to go home and assures them that measures would be taken to improve the safety of women in the country. His lackluster statement quickly passes out of memory.

However, as he ended his speech, he asks the question ‘Theek Hai?’ (Was it fine?) to the technicians off-screen.

This part of his speech is accidentally broadcast and raises fresh protests and a stream of comments as to why the entire situation was ‘Not fine’.

Meanwhile two of the accused are produced in a Delhi court where they ask to be hanged for their crimes.

December 25: The victim appeared to be getting better with her doctor hoping for an optimistic outcome despite having to remove almost all of her small intestine due to gangrene. She manages to give a statement to a magistrate.

This statement lead to an ugly political spat with CM Sheila Dikshit complaining to Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde that the police were causing interference with the process.

The Delhi constable who was found collapsed at the scene of the protests on December 23, Subhash Tomar, dies.

December 26: The protests continue in Delhi and only get larger. Constable Tomar is cremated with full state honors – a rare service for a constable and seen as the Delhi police making a point.

However the victim’s condition deteriorates drastically and she is flown to Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital.

December 27: The victim remains critical in the ICU of Mount Elizabeth Hospital. The Delhi police, along with other paramilitary forces, clamp down on the capital in a desperate attempt to stop the protests.

They stop metro services, close roads and essentially turn the heart of the capital of India into a fortress. They even impose curfew, forbidding more than five persons from assembling.

December 28: Despite the efforts of the Delhi police the protests continue. The victim’s condition deteriorates further. Her doctors in Singapore announce that she is suffering from multiple organ failure and is ‘extremely critical’. There were hopes that the super-specialty hospital might yet save her life.

December 29: At around 3 am IST, the victim passes away.

The End

Most of you would feel ashamed after reading this real incident happened in my country 2 weeks back! Yes, I belong to a country where brutal acts and sexual abuses against women and children are increasing day by day. But why? I had been regularly taking the pledge mentioned in the beginning along with my mates from my kindergarten days onwards till my Higher Secondary School Level. It was almost around 12 years of my life, I had raised the same pledge in every morning sessions before the class starts. One among the assassin included in the list is a minor, who is legally an immature guy. How come he also added up in the gang? Did it show that I wouldn’t be able to walk along with my sister or mom in a public path during late night?

My personal opinions:

As a fellow Indian being, I couldn’t resist myself after hearing this heart-rending news in late today morning. My expectation for her come back from the brutal cause to life was keenly an affable one. Even her determination and wish for a comeback in such a bad condition made me excited as from a manly sight. I have also a family consisting of an elder sister and mom. If this is the case, how could I at least walk in the darkness of night with my mom or sister to a nearby shop or home which is at a distance of 10 or 20 minutes walk? From my point of view, India lacks well blatant rules and justice against the murders who are committing unbelievable crimes of this sort. I do remember the strictly engaged rules in Arabic nations against this kind of atrocity by the human pests.
* Sudden actions must take against such shindy acts in the public.
* Every woman should take their own responsibility in keeping them safe from impassable conditions.

*Be always cautious in taking every step when you’re either in a crowded or strange independent area.
* Hold a mobile or at least tell your parents when you’re out during night schedules. Be always in touch with them.
*Avoid using modern and faint dress materials when you travel alone at night.

What I have seen from the responses of common people over here is just WORDLESS! Hoping for a peaceful and apt justice from the legal authorities against the murderers and convey it as a lesson for those who’re still in the crooked paths of doing injustice and uncultured events. May the assasins think about themselves what they did to their sensitive sister and remorse about the sins they put on her and the family. ATONEMENT! It must be the final result which should elapse through their mind with the punishment they are going to face.

Thanks,
Rahul

Note: Hey fellas! It’s been such a long time I was fully outdated from this space. The reason for my absence was the restrictions put forward by my Mom for the cyber area related activities cause of my internal exams started by the mid of this month. Dheedhi is available at home by the beginning of this month inwards and will leave back to her college after Christmas only. Actually I hate watching movies at Multiplex theaters. Usually, I used to see it via A class or B class normal theaters than this heavy casual areas. Simply sitting and watching an action or a romantic flick with mouth  ‘ZERO’ degree CLOSED seemliness isn’t at all fair for ME. Entertainment aspects really matters here too. LOL. 😀 😀

Review: Oldboy

A substantive revenge revealing flick!

Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy, a korean flick, which shows the concoction of sexuality, violence, and cinematic ingenuity in a well outspoken manner. It’s not a political or sexual flick, but it is all about the distortions of one’s personality as a result of revenge, which was meant for a corny incident happened during hero’s(Dae-su) teenage .Choi Min-sik did that role in a well explicit and extra ordinary manner. Hat’s off to you mahn! \m/ 🙂

Movie begins with the drunkard Dae-su’s intemperate behavior and scrimmage against the police authorities, who arrested him under an indrawn custody. Later he released from there with the help of his friend,  Joo-hwan! He gets Dae-su to call home from a phone booth, but while the solicitous friend takes a turn talking to the birthday girl, Dae-su mysteriously DISAPPEARS.  Later we are supposed to see, Dae-su in a prison cell, where, with the help of a voice-over delivered by Dae-su from some time in the future, we find out the businessman has been imprisoned for 15 YEARS. The specialty about the prison is that, it’s a private cell by ill natured people for their customers to have their enemies kidnapped and locked up.  Dae-su’s life in such a complicated days made him to wait for the day of negotiation from there.  Life inside it was a comfortable cell, which resembles a very comfortable studio apartment sans kitchen, TV and all. He writes out a lengthy list of people he’s offended or injured enough to have plotted this revenge.

Let’s just say that Dae-su is, after 15 years, released from his prison and wanders into a sushi bar where he meets Mido (Kang Hye-jeong), an 18-year-old sushi chef with whom he soon takes up.  During this middle section, Dae-su is contacted over a cell phone he’s slipped – and, eventually, through email – by the mysterious man who paid for his imprisonment.  Dae-su also tracks down the prison’s location and wreaks a little revenge of his own on his hired jailers.

From here onwards, we can see the extremely violent, though the physical violence seems perfectly appropriate when you match it up to the psychic violence.  Also, Park throughout the film, has employed distancing devices.  He’ll use a medium shot instead of a close-up whenever he can, a long-shot instead of a medium shot.  The movie’s big fight scene – during which Dae-su pummels a platoon of pole-wielding thugs with a hammer (and wins) – is filmed in a beautiful and splendid way for the viewers.  Just before the fight begins, when Dae-su holds his hammer over the head of his first victim, a dotted line suddenly appears on screen tracing the path the hammer will take to the man’s pate. It’s really horrible as well as substantive one though. 😀

Park’s visual language can be lovely, as well.  In his cell, Dae-su had been susceptible to hallucinations in which ants had crawled all over his face and arms and under his skin.  Mido, who reads about it in his journals, tells him she feels bad for him; she’s read that people who dream about ants are lonely.  To show the idea of loneliness and ants as Mido imagines it, Park uses a computer trick to have an oncoming subway car cross the frame from upper right to lower left; whether intentional or not. When he cuts to the inside of a train car, all alone, and a placid-looking giant ant all alone in another.  It’s an antique moment, strangely serene, odd, and wholly different from Dae-su’s experience.

The middle portion of Oldboy belongs to Dae-su and Mido, their burgeoning relationship and how it tries to take hold under what turns out to be the surveillance of Dae-su’s foe.  The final third belongs to Dae-su and that foe who, by then, has openly revealed himself and prodded Dae-su to discover the source of his enmity.

Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy delivers a package of filmed vengeance that is steeped in rage and violence.  But it’s also a rigorously introspective movie of the times. For me, Oldboy is one among the movie that can be added to my top 5 flicks list. A MUST watch one! 🙂

Verdict:4.6/5

I’m so glad to share the youtube link of full movie with English subtitles here. Hope you guys will enjoy watching this irrevocable thriller. 🙂
